Hair of the Goat Bloody Mary Mix got its start in the backwoods barstools of Gem Village, Colorado—a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind of town where locals knew the best cure for a rough night came in a pint glass rimmed with spice.


The mix was dreamed up by a longtime bartender and the proud owner of the Billy Goat Saloon, a roadside watering hole that served the community for over 40 years. Folks came for the cold drinks, stayed for the company, and left talking about that Bloody Mary.


In 2024, after a drawn-out legal dispute with a chain bar bearing a similar name, the Billy Goat was forced to close its doors. But as any good local will tell you: you can’t keep a good goat down.


Hair of the Goat lives on—still handcrafted in small batches just outside Durango, Colorado, with the same punch, spice, and soul that started it all back in the day.
